6 Week Program (< 14 weeks)

$3200

Tues–Fri for 6 weeks |
8 private lessons at PLD

Over our two weeks together, we'll put positive reinforcement into practice to teach your dog good manners and basic skills. Eight private lessons—one at the start of the program, one each Saturday, and two at the end of the program—keep you up-to-date on your dog's progress and help ensure lasting success. The first two weeks, your dog will have structured exposure in our Puppy Nursery. We'll work on socialization, handling (to aid future bathing/grooming, nail trims, vaccinations, etc.), proper play with other dogs, crate training, potty training, name recognition, and beginner basics such as sit, down, focus, and touch. During weeks 3–6, our focus shifts to more of the basics—come, stay, place, free, wait at doors, leave it, take it, drop it, loose leash walking, collar grabs—and distraction work. Throughout your dog's time with us, they'll have individual sessions with a trainer, regular socialization, potty breaks, and rest breaks throughout the day. This program also includes one free bath coupon and one free night of lodging coupon to be used at your convenience. To secure your dates, we will need to take full payment for the desired program and schedule your lessons.

4 Week Program (14 weeks +)

$2900

tue–Fri for 4 weeks |
6 private lessons at PLD

Ideal for dogs 14 weeks and older, this program is all about communication. We spend these four weeks establishing healthy boundaries for your dog through clear commands, learned behavior, and positive reinforcement. By doing this, we prep them for every interaction they may have with both people and other canine companions. In addition to name recognition, we'll also help your dog learn how to loose leash walk, greet people appropriately, and respond to sit, touch, down, come, stay, place, free, wait, focus, leave it, and drop it. Seven private lessons—one at the start of the program, one each Saturday, and two at the end of the program—help every pet parent and family build a stronger, reliable relationship with their furry friend. Throughout your dog's time with us, they'll have individual sessions with a trainer, regular socialization, potty breaks, and rest breaks throughout the day. This program also includes one free bath coupon and one free night of lodging coupon to be used at your convenience. From first to final session, we emphasize patience and positive reinforcement. It takes dogs 3–6 months to commit a behavior to long-term memory, so their success depends on consistent training.

During our time together, we’ll work on behaviors that will be most helpful to you and your canine companion. Each session is tailored and each family is supported by additional educational materials, so you can review lessons and homework suggestions that reinforce a loving, lifelong relationship — one based not solely on the strength of a single course, but on the collective commitment to repetition and reward.

What we can work on:

  • Puppy prep for before you get your furry friend
  • Potty and crate training
  • Puppy biting
  • Puppy wellness, problem prevention training, and socialization through structured playtime
  • Separation anxiety and fears
  • Polite on- and off-leash reactions to dogs and people including how to gently interact with babies and children
  • Impulse control to prevent destructive behavior and resource guarding such as counter surfing, raiding the trash, demand barking, pulling on a leash, bolting, not coming when called, chewing excessively, and jumping on guests
  • Treadmill training
  • Tricks
  • Canine Good Citizen behaviors

requirements

All dogs must be in good health. For lessons at PLD, all doges must have a negative result on a fecal test.

requirements

All dogs must be in good health. Additionally, dogs that are fearful, leash reactive, or not well-socialized are required to schedule at least one private lesson before joining a group class. Behaviors inappropriate for group class include lunging, cowering, growling, excessive barking, and overexcitement. These behaviors require specific behavior modification that calls for one-on-one attention. Our goal is to work with the dog and their family to reduce the behavior to a manageable level so that they can join a group class in the future.

To ensure your furry friend gets the most out of their stay, we start by making small groups based on size and/or temparament. From there, we work on basic obedience and keep your canine mentally and physically active with pup puzzles as well as FitPAWS, treadmills, and agility exercises. Consider this our answer to traditional dog daycare.

We’ll work on:

  • Sit and wait at doors and gates
  • Potty and mark outside only
  • Quiet (No excessive barking)
  • Down (No jumping up on people)
  • Settle down
  • Impulse control

requirements

PLD Alumni status

To enroll in Canine Academy, dogs must have completed Prep School (4 or 6 week program) or our Advanced Skills course. Additionally, all dogs must be spayed or neutered. Prior to enrollment, all dogs must successfully complete a New Student Orientation Day during which they’ll meet and greet other students to ensure everyone is comfortable, friendly, and accepting of humans and fellow canine companions.

Throughout the day, your dog will be evaluated on their general disposition and obedience skill level. If we don’t feel we’re a good fit, we’ll recommend another program. Because we want everyone to find the fit that’s right for them.
